Looking to the future...
Although we don't like to think about it, one of the most important things you can do in your life, is ensure that your hard earned asserts, which you work for over a lifetime, are secure, and that in the unlikely event of your untimely death, the people you care about most are looked after. Having lived though some touch times when MS was progressing rapidly, I don't have any hang-ups in facing my own mortality. Thankfully that was not my destiny, but had it been I would have wanted what few worldly good I had to have been left to the right people. Now I have met Steve my scooterman and life partner, this matter has become all the more important to me. Many people never get around to sorting out their Wills. Why? I think it's just never high enough on their list of priorities, it's the "oh it'll never happen to me syndrome" isn't it. Well sadly the truth is that, not everyone does die of old age. The statistically less likely than death through natural causes, accidents do happen. Just driving about in a car on the road is hazardous enough! I developed MS at 21. Sadly Illness too can strike at any age! Often people feel by just going to the trouble of drawing up a Will they are in some way tempting fate. People just don't want to think about death at all do they. Though understandable it is pretty selfish when you think about it, not to put your family first, even if the odds are a million to one. After all someone, somewhere does win the lottery every week don't they! The chances of developing Multiple Sclerosis are 1 in 600 for a woman in the UK, and I won that lottery didn't I. Thankfully though, the experience of MS, though the biggest challenge of my young life and very tough at times, has become my greatest teacher, a blessing in more ways than one, and in many ways has been the making of me. MS doesn't threaten my life like it once did, but I do drive a mobility scooter on the road and that is not without risk! And there is also your own future to consider. Times are changing and we no longer have a System that we can be sure we can rely on in the longer term. Did you know that if you were to need to go into long-term care, your hard-earned assets, such as your savings, or even your house, could be taken from you by the Council. They can use these asserts to fund your care costs, perhaps leaving you with as little as £11 500 to leave to your family? Our man John can prevent all this happening to you and it won't cost you much either, 'The cost of a basic Will starts from just £23.44 incl.vat, a small price to pay for peace of mind!
